Delhi Rains: Tree Falls on Bike in Kalkaji, One Dead, Two Injured
Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR claimed one life in Kalkaji after a tree fell on a motorcycle, as waterlogging and flooding disrupted the city ahead of Independence Day
14-08-2025A man was killed and two others injured in Delhi’s Kalkaji area on Thursday when a large tree collapsed onto a motorcycle during heavy rainfall. A nearby vehicle was also damaged in the incident.
Torrential showers lashed Delhi-NCR, several parts of North India, and Mumbai, disrupting daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the national capital, warning of more intense rain. Waterlogging severely affected major roads across the city, with multiple underpasses flooded just days before Independence Day events.
Despite the downpour, flight operations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport remained unaffected. “Delhi is experiencing adverse weather, but flights are operating normally,” the airport said in a statement.
Between Wednesday morning and Thursday 8:30 am, Safdarjung—Delhi’s main weather station—recorded 13.1 mm of rainfall. Aya Nagar received the highest at 57.4 mm, followed by Palam at 49.4 mm. Lodhi Road saw 12 mm, Pragati Maidan 9 mm, and Pusa 5 mm, according to IMD data.
The showers pulled down the city’s minimum temperature to 23.6°C, which is 3.2 degrees below the seasonal average. The IMD forecasts a maximum temperature of around 32°C for the day.
