Following the BJP’s decisive win in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Delhi Secretariat has implemented stringent security measures, restricting access to documents and tightening entry protocols. An order issued on Saturday by the General Administration Department (GAD) emphasized the safeguarding of official records.
Restrictions on Documents and Files
The GAD directive stated that no files, documents, or electronic records, including computer hardware, may be removed from the Secretariat premises without prior approval. “To ensure the security and integrity of official records, necessary precautions must be taken by all department heads and branch in-charges,” the order outlined. This applies to all government officers, ministerial camp offices, and administrative units within the Secretariat.
Entry Restrictions and Surveillance
In a separate order, the department instructed officials to verify the identity and purpose of all private individuals seeking entry into the complex. Security personnel, including private guards, have been directed to increase surveillance on all floors, ensuring that CCTV cameras remain operational round-the-clock.
“To enhance security, no unauthorized person shall be allowed entry without approval from the appropriate authority. Strict identity verification procedures will be followed,” the order stated. Additionally, reception staff and police personnel stationed at the Secretariat have been asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
Clarification on Secretariat Operations
Earlier reports suggested that the Delhi Secretariat had been fully sealed. However, officials dismissed these claims, clarifying that only precautionary security measures had been enforced.
BJP’s Landslide Victory
The security measures came into effect on the same day that the BJP secured a significant victory, winning 48 out of 70 Assembly seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 27 years. The AAP, which had governed for a decade, was reduced to 22 seats. Several key AAP leaders, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and senior leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj and Avadh Ojha, lost their seats. However, outgoing Chief Minister Atishi managed to retain her position by defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.
The newly implemented security measures at the Delhi Secretariat are expected to remain in force as the transition of power takes place.
