Delhi Water Minister Atishi directed officials on Sunday to promptly repair the pump house at the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant, which had been flooded due to recent heavy rains, and to implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
In a Hindi post on 'X' following her inspection of the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant, Atishi explained that unexpected rains had inundated the pumping house, causing damage to the motors.
"This disruption affected the water supply in many parts of Central Delhi. However, the Jal Board responded quickly, and the plant is now almost 80 percent repaired. Normal water supply will resume shortly," Atishi stated.
She further mentioned, "I inspected the plant today and instructed officials to expedite the pump house repairs. Additionally, I emphasized the importance of joint inspections to ensure such issues do not happen again in the future."
The heavy rainfall, measuring 228.1 mm, brought Delhi to a standstill on Friday, marking the highest June rainfall since 1936. Several parts of the city were submerged, and multiple lives were lost.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rains in Delhi and has issued an "orange alert" for the city until July 2.
