A dense layer of fog engulfed Delhi and surrounding regions on Saturday, causing significant disruptions to flight operations and road traffic. More than 220 flights at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed due to reduced runway visibility, while road travel across North India was severely impacted.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the national capital, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by rain. Gusty winds are also expected, with the maximum temperature likely to dip by at least three degrees. The sky is forecast to remain overcast throughout the day.

Delhi recorded a slight rise in minimum temperature on Friday, reaching 8°C, up from 6°C the previous day. The increase was attributed to an active western disturbance. Satellite imagery revealed cloud cover over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, which is expected to move toward Delhi, bringing rain later today.

The IMD has also forecast showers for Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram, as well as parts of Haryana and Rajasthan. Dense fog has continued to blanket large swathes of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, further complicating travel across the region.

Flight operations at airports in Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra, Patna, and Bareilly were severely affected, with visibility dropping to near zero. At Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, 19 flights faced delays, including 11 departures and 8 arrivals.

On Friday, over 250 flights were delayed at Delhi airport, while 26 trains were reported running late across northern states. In Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district, seven vehicles collided on a fog-covered highway, leaving three people injured.

As weather conditions remain challenging, authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution and stay updated on flight and train schedules.
