Aviation regulator DGCA has served a show-cause notice to IndiGo over alleged irregularities in simulator training provided to nearly 1,700 pilots, according to people familiar with the matter.
The action follows a review of training records and responses the airline submitted to the regulator last month. Sources said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation discovered that critical airfield training (Category C) for both captains and first officers was carried out using simulators that did not meet the qualification standards required for specific high-risk airports, including Calicut, Leh, and Kathmandu.
These airports demand additional operational readiness due to challenging conditions — for instance, Calicut features a table-top runway that requires extra caution during landings and takeoffs.
Confirming the development, an IndiGo spokesperson said, “We have received a show-cause notice from the DGCA regarding simulator training of some of our pilots. We are reviewing the matter and will respond within the stipulated timeframe.”
