US President Donald Trump once again found himself at the center of controversy, this time for his choice of attire at Pope Francis’s funeral mass in Vatican City on Saturday.

While world leaders gathered in solemnity at St Peter’s Square, all dressed in black to honor the late pontiff, Trump stood out in a light blue suit with a matching tie — a sharp contrast to the traditional mourning dress expected at such events.

Among those present were French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Argentine President Javier Milei, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, all of whom adhered to the expected black attire symbolizing grief and respect.

Across many cultures, black clothing at funerals is a mark of reverence for the departed, and deviation from this norm can be perceived as inappropriate or disrespectful.

Trump was accompanied by his wife, Melania Trump, who wore a black ensemble fitting the occasion. Interestingly, while UK's Prince William and Indian President Droupadi Murmu opted for darker shades of blue, it was Trump’s lighter blue outfit that caught widespread attention.

Social media users quickly criticized the President’s fashion choice. "Dude really wore a blue suit, not even navy or black, but blue. Totally embarrassing and disrespectful," one user remarked, echoing the sentiments of many others.

Reports suggested that Trump’s outfit was in breach of the funeral’s dress code. Former President Joe Biden, who also attended, wore a blue tie but paired it appropriately with a black suit in line with the protocol.

The backlash online was swift, with many calling Trump’s appearance "disrespectful" and "an embarrassment." One post read, “He always has to stick out and try and be the center of attention,” underscoring the widespread disapproval over the incident.
