A moderate earthquake struck Nepal on Friday evening, sending tremors across North India just days after a devastating quake in Myanmar
05-04-2025Nepal experienced a 5.0 magnitude earthquake on Friday evening, days after a powerful quake devastated parts of Myanmar and Thailand. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), tremors were felt across the Delhi-NCR region, though no damage was immediately reported.
The earthquake struck at 7:52 PM local time, with its epicentre located at a depth of 20 kilometres beneath the surface, as per data released by the NCS.
This seismic activity in Nepal followed a relatively minor 2.6 magnitude quake recorded just a day earlier in Maharashtra’s Solapur district on Thursday, showing a spate of recent tectonic movement in the broader South Asian region.
Meanwhile, Myanmar continues to reel under the aftermath of a major earthquake that recently shook the country. According to an update issued Thursday by the ruling military regime, the confirmed death toll has climbed to 3,085. Additionally, at least 4,715 individuals have sustained injuries, and 341 people remain unaccounted for.
Authorities in Myanmar acknowledged that the crisis is far from over. "Search and rescue missions are ongoing," the military stated, while aid agencies continue efforts to deliver medical assistance and emergency shelter to affected communities.
