Elon Musk's social media platform, X, is set to stage a town hall event with former US President Donald Trump in the lead-up to the November 5 presidential elections. This event marks Trump's return to the platform three years after his suspension following the January 6 Capitol riots.

X will also host a similar town hall with independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Both events will feature the candidates answering submitted questions during the livestream, which will be broadcast in partnership with cable channel NewsNation.

Musk confirmed the town hall events on Friday via a tweet, following a report by Axios, stating that they "will be interesting." Musk, who acquired the platform for $44 billion in late 2022 and lifted Trump's ban, has expressed his dissatisfaction with President Biden and has made efforts to attract conservative politicians. For instance, X hosted a Q&A session when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his Republican presidential candidacy.

Interestingly, President Joe Biden declined an invitation from X to participate in a debate or town hall, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The dates, locations, and moderators for the town halls have not yet been announced. However, Axios reported that the moderators would likely include at least one NewsNation host, alongside other journalists.

Trump's participation in the town hall follows his recent conviction related to a hush-money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. These town hall events signal X's strategic move to establish itself as a key platform for political dialogue ahead of the elections.
