A family holidaying in Lonavala, near Mumbai, faced tragedy when they were swept away by a powerful waterfall. The family of seven had been enjoying a picnic at the waterfall near the Bhusi Dam, a popular spot during the monsoon season. Heavy rains earlier in the day had caused the dam to overflow, intensifying the waterfall's flow.

In a heart-wrenching scene captured on video, the family was seen clinging to each other on a rock in the middle of the torrent, attempting to move to safety. Within moments, the force of the water overwhelmed them, sweeping them downstream as their cries for help echoed.

Despite the presence of other tourists, the ferocity of the waters prevented any immediate rescue efforts. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM. Locals and police quickly arrived at the scene, using ropes and trekking gear to search for survivors. Two family members managed to swim to safety, but tragically, three bodies have been recovered so far, with the search set to resume at daybreak.

Police reports, as cited by news agency PTI, indicated that the family slipped on mossy rocks at the base of the falls and were carried away by the strong current. This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety measures at the waterfall and the Bhusi Dam area.

A separate video from the same location showed crowds sitting on the dam's edge, with food stalls set up amid the rushing waters, highlighting a lack of security measures to prevent such accidents.

The incident underscores the urgent need for improved safety protocols in popular tourist spots, especially during the monsoon season.
