The fire broke out on the multi-role frigate during its refit at the Naval Dockyard. The crew, along with firefighters from the dockyard and nearby ships, managed to control the blaze. Subsequent actions, including thorough checks for any lingering fire hazards, were swiftly executed.
"The fire was brought under control by the ship's crew with the assistance of firefighters from the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai and other ships in harbour, by [Monday] morning. Further, follow-on actions including sanitisation checks for assessment of residual risk of fire were carried out," the navy stated.
However, by the afternoon, the ship began listing heavily to the port side. Despite extensive efforts, the ship could not be stabilized, sources informed India Today TV.
