France Bars Omar Bin Laden from Re-Entry Over Terrorism Glorification
France has imposed a permanent ban on Omar Bin Laden, son of Osama bin Laden, after he made statements on social media deemed to glorify terrorism
08-10-2024France has implemented a ban on Omar Bin Laden, son of the late Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, preventing his return to the country due to statements made on social media that were interpreted as "glorifying terrorism." Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau announced the decision on Tuesday, labeling it a matter of national security.
Omar Bin Laden had been living in Orne, France, for several years, where he worked as a painter and was married to a British citizen. However, after making controversial social media posts in 2023, he received an expulsion notice. Retailleau confirmed that the French judiciary sanctioned the decision based on national security concerns, ensuring that Bin Laden would not be able to re-enter France under any circumstances.
Omar Bin Laden, 43, had resided in France since 2016 but voluntarily left in 2023 and moved to Qatar. His ban follows a tweet he made on May 2, 2023, which honored individuals he described as martyrs and was posted on the anniversary of his father's birth.
Osama bin Laden, the founder of Al-Qaeda, was killed by US forces in a 2011 raid in Pakistan, where he was known for orchestrating the September 11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States.
