CCTV footage from a residential society in Ghaziabad has emerged as a key part of the police investigation into an alleged murder conspiracy involving a woman and her gym trainer. The woman's husband, Shashank Kantharia, survived after being stabbed multiple times inside their rented home in Vasundhara on October 26.

Police have arrested Priya Sharma, Kantharia's wife, and Pratap Singh, her alleged accomplice. Investigators suspect the two planned the attack because they wanted to marry, while Kantharia had reportedly discovered their relationship and was considering moving elsewhere after Diwali.

Footage accessed by NDTV shows Priya driving out of the Jagriti Resident Welfare Association Society in Vasundhara Sector 1 at around 5:17 am on the day of the attack. Approximately three minutes later, Singh was seen running towards the couple's residence.

Police allege that Singh entered the flat and attacked Kantharia while he was asleep.

Neighbours chase suspect after hearing screams

The attack drew attention when neighbours heard Kantharia screaming and the couple's three-year-old child crying. Singh allegedly fled the building at around 5:23 am, carrying two knives, according to accounts provided by residents.

People in the neighbourhood became suspicious as he ran out and pursued him. Singh reportedly told them that nothing had happened, but residents, assisted by two bikers and a security guard, caught him near the society's main gate.

Kantharia was discovered on the building's top floor around 20 minutes later and taken to hospital, where he remains under treatment.

The residential complex requires residents' approval for outsiders to enter. Police suspect Priya facilitated Singh's access to the premises and allegedly left the gate unlocked to help him get inside.

Police allege relationship led to conspiracy

According to investigators, Priya and Kantharia had been married for around four years. Kantharia is originally from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and police said the marriage was Priya's second.

Both spouses reportedly held government jobs. Their families have said they were unaware of any major dispute between the couple.

Investigators said Priya began visiting Fitness Headquarters, where Singh worked as a trainer, around seven to eight months ago. The two allegedly became close and communicated through WhatsApp.

During questioning, Singh reportedly told police that he and Priya intended to marry. Investigators believe Kantharia had learnt about their relationship and was planning to relocate after Diwali in November.

Police further alleged that Priya sometimes stayed home claiming to be unwell and invited Singh over after her husband left for work.

According to the police account, the two met while out running on October 25, a day before the stabbing, and discussed killing Kantharia.

These details form part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged conspiracy.

Husband's family says they saw no warning signs

Kantharia's brother, Ritesh Kanthariya, told NDTV that the family had never suspected Priya of being involved in such a plan.

He said the couple had given the impression that their relationship was normal and that there were no serious problems between them.

Describing his brother's condition after the attack, Ritesh said the injuries were extensive and recovery would take time. He told the news outlet that Kantharia had sustained wounds to his head, neck and shoulder, while a knife had penetrated his chest and damaged his lungs.

According to Ritesh, doctors had initially feared that Kantharia might not survive.

Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged conspiracy and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
