Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Quad Summit in Delaware, U.S., emphasizing the significance of the meeting amid widespread global tensions. He underscored the importance of the Quad's collaborative efforts, driven by shared democratic values, to foster stability and peace.
"Our meeting comes at a time when the world is grappling with tensions and conflicts. In such circumstances, the Quad's cooperation, based on our shared democratic values, is vital for the greater good of humanity," Modi stated in his opening remarks.
PM Modi clarified that the Quad alliance is not directed against any specific nation but aims to uphold a "rules-based international order," advocating respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. He also highlighted the group’s dedication to ensuring a "free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific," which remains a shared priority for all Quad members.
The Prime Minister praised U.S. President Joe Biden for his leadership and significant contributions to the growth of the Quad alliance, recalling the first summit held in 2021. "In a short span of time, our cooperation has expanded in unprecedented ways, and I thank you deeply for your commitment to the Quad," Modi remarked, expressing India’s eagerness to host the summit in 2025.
In his speech, Modi also acknowledged the Quad's initiatives across various sectors, including health, climate change, security, and emerging technologies.
As part of his three-day visit to the U.S., Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with President Biden ahead of the summit, discussing the future of U.S.-India relations and addressing regional and global challenges. During his visit, Modi is set to meet other world leaders, attend an event with the American-Indian community in New York, meet U.S. tech executives, and deliver an address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
