A massive blaze tore through a popular nightclub in Goa, and early investigations reveal that the venue’s wooden interiors fuelled the inferno, trapping several people inside. Police clarified that there was no explosion; instead, the fire multiplied rapidly because the club was built with flammable materials and had only two exits, leaving little room for escape.

At least 25 people lost their lives, with officials stating that most victims died from severe asphyxiation after being trapped in an underground kitchen zone where smoke accumulated instantly. Forensic teams noted that 23 bodies had no visible burns, suggesting an abrupt depletion of oxygen, while only two victims had significant fire injuries.

So far, post-mortem examinations have been completed for 17 victims, and families have received six bodies for last rites. Authorities have compiled a full list of the deceased to streamline identification and handovers.

Police have arrested four individuals, including the gate supervisor, Thakur. An FIR has been filed against the club’s proprietors, Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, who remain untraceable. A special team has been sent to Delhi to locate the owners, believed to be on the run.

Officials confirmed that the primary owner hails from Delhi, and search operations are underway there to secure his arrest. Meanwhile, scrutiny has intensified around government officials who approved the venue’s licences. Those involved in granting permissions will be suspended and investigated for possible negligence.

In a gesture of support, the Goa government arranged a special aircraft to transport the remains of three victims from Jharkhand to Ranchi, ensuring their families received them without delay.
