Kalyan Bainsla, the 33-year-old man arrested in connection with the alleged hit-and-run involving a woman biker on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road, attempted to flee from police after his arrest in Rajasthan, officials said.

According to the Gurugram Police, Bainsla asked to stop on the pretext of going to urinate and then tried to escape. He reportedly fell while attempting to flee and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he received preliminary medical treatment.

Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan’s Dausa district on September 15 after three police teams tracked him following an overnight operation.

Attempt-to-murder charge added

The police have invoked Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with attempt to murder, after examining CCTV footage of the incident.

Bainsla is accused of hitting a woman biker with his car on Golf Course Road. Police said the footage and subsequent investigation indicated that the collision was intentional.

The accused, a resident of Chandhat in Haryana’s Palwal, allegedly left the area after the incident and switched off his mobile phone to avoid being traced.

Before disappearing, however, Bainsla spoke to several media outlets about the incident.

In an interview with India Today TV, he denied deliberately hitting the bikers. He claimed that he had been asking them to slow down and said he had no intention of ramming them.

Police allege accused abused woman biker

The investigation has also brought additional allegations against Bainsla.

According to Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar, the woman told police that Bainsla allegedly abused her and made indecent remarks shortly before the collision.

Police said the survivor’s statement was recorded during the investigation and that further sections were subsequently added to the FIR.

Stalking, insulting modesty charges invoked

Police have also added Section 78 of the BNS, relating to stalking, and Section 79, concerning words, gestures or acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty.

Officials said these additions followed the survivor’s detailed statement and the examination of available evidence.

The police have alleged that Bainsla intentionally drove the car into the woman biker. The investigation is continuing to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

Car recovered, another man detained

The Crime Branch’s Sohna team arrested Bainsla in Rajasthan on September 15. Police have also recovered the car allegedly involved in the incident.

The vehicle is registered in the name of one of Bainsla’s friends, according to police.

Another person who was allegedly accompanying Bainsla has been detained and is being questioned. Investigators are examining his involvement and role in the incident.

Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
