Popular Indian food brand Haldiram's is preparing to enter the UK’s restaurant scene with its first full-scale dine-in outlet, offering a taste of home to the Indian diaspora and introducing British diners to authentic regional Indian cuisine.

The new establishment will open in Leicester Square, one of London’s busiest districts, with doors expected to open in June 2026. Spanning approximately 3,000 square feet, the restaurant will serve an extensive menu featuring Indian street food favourites, chaats, curries, and traditional desserts inspired by recipes from across the country.

Founded in 1937, Haldiram’s built its reputation on packaged snacks and sweets such as bhujia, namkeen mixes, soan papdi, and kaju katli. Over the decades, it has expanded globally, with its products stocked in supermarkets across multiple countries. The London outlet marks a strategic shift from packaged retail offerings to a more immersive, sit-down dining experience overseas.

Expansion Led by Next-Generation Leadership

The brand’s European expansion is being overseen by Rhea Agarwal, a member of the third generation of the founding family. She is currently spearheading the company’s growth plans in the UK and wider European market.

Explaining the choice of London as the launchpad, Agarwal noted that the city’s significant South Asian community and increasing curiosity about diverse Indian cuisines made it a natural fit. She emphasised that while the restaurant aims to evoke nostalgia for Indians living abroad, it also seeks to showcase the richness and variety of Indian culinary traditions to a broader audience.

What to Expect on the Menu

Unlike its traditional quick-service format in India, the London outlet will focus on an elevated casual dining model. Diners can expect signature dishes such as chole bhature, pav bhaji, and raj kachori, alongside a wide selection of chaat items.

The restaurant will also debut specially curated fusion desserts tailored to UK tastes. In addition to the dining area, the outlet will include a retail section where customers can purchase packaged snacks and takeaway items.

With this move, Haldiram’s aims to strengthen its global footprint while transforming the way international audiences experience Indian food beyond supermarket shelves.
