The Centre on Thursday stated that supplies of key fuels such as petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG remain adequate across India, dismissing concerns about possible shortages.

Addressing Parliament, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the country currently has sufficient fuel reserves and that distribution systems are operating without disruption.

According to the minister, nationwide supply chains for petroleum products are functioning efficiently and there is no immediate threat to fuel availability.

Stocks sufficient to meet demand

Puri emphasised that the overall fuel situation in the country remains stable, with inventories at levels capable of meeting domestic consumption requirements.

He noted that supplies of diesel, petrol and kerosene are secure and that the government is ensuring uninterrupted distribution across different regions.

LPG supply also protected

The minister also addressed concerns regarding LPG availability, stating that household cooking gas supplies are safeguarded even as global energy markets remain volatile.

He explained that India has taken steps in recent years to strengthen energy security by expanding the number of countries it sources fuel from.

Earlier, a large portion of the country’s LPG imports came from Gulf nations. However, India has since diversified its supply channels to reduce dependence on a single region and to guard against geopolitical disruptions.

Monitoring global energy developments

The government’s reassurance comes at a time when rising geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in crude oil prices have raised concerns about possible supply disruptions in several parts of the world.

Despite these uncertainties, officials said India’s fuel supply system remains resilient due to diversified imports, strategic planning and adequate reserves.

Authorities added that the government continues to monitor developments in global energy markets closely and will take necessary measures to ensure that fuel supplies remain uninterrupted for consumers across the country.
