HYDRAA Demolishes Nagarjuna's N Convention Over Alleged Encroachment on Lake Land
The HYDRAA agency demolished actor Nagarjuna's N Convention Center for encroaching on a lake in Hyderabad, sparking controversy and a possible legal battle
24-08-2024In a significant move, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) agency demolished the N Convention Center, owned by actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, on Friday. The demolition is part of a wider campaign aimed at clearing illegal constructions that have encroached on water bodies and public lands.
The N Convention Center, which covers 10 acres, was found to have violated multiple land use and environmental regulations. Authorities determined that the property had encroached on the Tummidikunta lake, occupying 1.12 acres within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and an additional 2 acres within the buffer zone surrounding the lake.
Nagarjuna, a well-known figure in Telugu cinema, has not yet issued a formal response to the demolition. The N Convention Center was a popular venue for weddings, corporate events, and other gatherings, making the agency’s decision a noteworthy development in Hyderabad’s efforts to reclaim public land.
The HYDRAA agency has emphasized that the demolition is part of its larger mission to restore and protect Hyderabad's water bodies from illegal encroachments. In response, Nagarjuna expressed his concern over the demolition, claiming that it was carried out unlawfully, against stay orders, and without prior notice. He also stated that the land is privately owned and does not encroach on any tank plan, signaling his intent to pursue legal action.
