INDIA Bloc Wins 10 of 13 Seats in Recent Bypolls, BJP Claims Only Two

In a recent electoral triumph, the Opposition INDIA bloc emerged victorious in 10 out of the 13 seats contested across seven states, reinforcing their strong performance in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, despite securing a historic third term at the Centre last month, only managed to win two seats.

In Punjab, AAP's Mohinder Bhagat achieved a decisive win in the Jalandhar West constituency, surpassing his opponent by over 23,000 votes. Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the TMC demonstrated its dominance by sweeping all four seats in contention.

Himachal Pradesh saw a significant political moment with Kamlesh Thakur, the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, winning the Dehra constituency. The Congress party further solidified its presence by capturing the Nalagarh seat, while the BJP secured a victory in Hamirpur.

Chief Minister Sukhu commented on the results, stating that the people of Himachal Pradesh have delivered a strong response to those attempting to destabilize the government. He noted, "The people of Himachal gave us 40 seats in 2022. This victory is a clear message against political poaching."

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK's Anniyur Siva won the Vikravandi assembly seat with a substantial lead of nearly 60,000 votes. The Congress secured both seats in Uttarakhand, whereas in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP's Kamslesh Pratap Shahi claimed the Amarwar seat.

In Bihar, independent candidate Shankar Singh triumphed in the Rupauli assembly bypoll, defeating JDU's Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by a margin of 8,246 votes.

These bypolls, the first since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, highlighted the BJP's previous success with 240 seats, 32 short of a majority. However, the NDA surpassed the halfway mark of 272 with a total of 293 seats, while the Congress-led INDIA bloc secured 232 seats.
