India Rejects USCIRF Report, Calls it Politically Motivated and Biased
The Indian government has dismissed the latest USCIRF report on religious freedom, accusing the commission of bias and pushing a politically driven narrative
03-10-2024The Indian government has strongly refuted the latest report from the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), accusing the body of bias and political motivation. The report, which alleges a decline in religious freedom in India and advocates for its designation as a "Country of Particular Concern," has been dismissed as "malicious" by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the MEA, criticized the report for misrepresenting facts and pushing a politically driven narrative. He emphasized that India has repeatedly expressed its discontent with the USCIRF's assessments, stating that the commission lacks an accurate understanding of India’s societal complexities and continues to publish misleading reports.
The government urged the USCIRF to focus on addressing domestic human rights issues within the United States, rather than pursuing what it described as agenda-driven reports on India. This rejection adds to a history of India's strong responses to USCIRF reports, which the government claims perpetuate anti-India propaganda.
