Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized India’s stance on global conflicts, asserting that the nation supports peace over neutrality. During his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, PM Modi stated that India firmly stands for ending the Russia-Ukraine war through peaceful means.

While addressing reporters alongside President Trump, Modi stressed that "this is not an era of war," urging for a resolution beyond the battlefield. He expressed India’s support for all peace initiatives, including Trump’s recent efforts to mediate the conflict. "India is not neutral; India is on the side of peace. We want to end the war," Modi declared.

President Trump echoed Modi’s sentiment, saying, "We want to end the war," and highlighted his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aimed at initiating peace talks.

When asked about India’s potential role in facilitating peace, Trump responded positively. "We are building strong relations with India and other nations. We are going to achieve remarkable economic milestones and announce several significant trade agreements soon," Trump said.

The high-level meeting occurred shortly after Trump unveiled new reciprocal tariffs impacting several countries, including India. Addressing concerns about balancing trade tensions with India while confronting China, Trump clarified, "We are not trying to beat anyone. We are focused on doing a great job for our people and strengthening our position globally."

Highlighting the partnership between the two democracies, PM Modi called for closer cooperation. "The US is the oldest democracy, and India is the largest. Together, we are not just 1+1=2; we are 1+1=11. This unity will drive progress and benefit all of humanity," Modi concluded.
