Indian Embassy in Tehran Issues Safety Advisory as Trump’s Iran Deadline Nears
Indian nationals in Iran urged to remain indoors and avoid sensitive locations amid rising tensions over the Strait of Hormuz
07-04-2026With US President Donald Trump’s latest deadline for Iran drawing close, the Embassy of India, Tehran on Tuesday released a precautionary advisory for Indian citizens residing in the country, calling for heightened vigilance and limited movement.
In its guidance, the mission advised Indians to stay where they are for at least the next 48 hours and to refrain from non-essential travel, particularly near sites considered sensitive, including defence and power facilities. As an added safety measure, people were cautioned against remaining on higher floors of multi-storey buildings.
The embassy stressed the importance of staying indoors and maintaining regular communication with officials, especially before undertaking any inter-city road travel, which should be done only after consulting the mission. Those currently housed in hotels arranged by the embassy were specifically instructed not to step out and to remain in constant touch with designated embassy teams.
Emergency helpline numbers remain active, and the mission has shared an official email address to assist nationals requiring support. Citizens were also encouraged to monitor official channels closely for further updates.
The advisory was issued hours after Trump delivered stark remarks regarding Iran, warning of dire consequences if developments take a negative turn. Writing on Truth Social, he suggested that irreversible destruction could occur, while noting that final decisions could still change depending on unfolding events.
Trump characterised the situation as a defining global moment and hinted at the possibility of political shifts within Iran. At the same time, he reiterated support for the Iranian people even as his administration maintained pressure on Tehran.
The backdrop to the escalating rhetoric is the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global oil supplies. Trump has repeatedly warned that if the waterway remains inaccessible beyond the revised April 7 deadline, Iran could face severe repercussions, including potential strikes on critical infrastructure.
Although the original 48-hour ultimatum has been extended multiple times, stretching into weeks, uncertainty continues over whether Washington will ultimately opt for military action or further diplomatic engagement.
