On Friday, budget airline IndiGo canceled 200 flights across India due to a global outage of Microsoft applications that disrupted air services both domestically and internationally.

In a statement, IndiGo said, "Flights are cancelled due to the cascading effect of the worldwide travel system outage, beyond our control. We truly appreciate your patience and support." The airline also noted that options for rebooking flights or claiming refunds were temporarily unavailable.

In Goa, five IndiGo flights scheduled to depart from the state's two airports were canceled, while many other flights faced delays due to the breakdown in Microsoft cloud services. Passengers at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad experienced cancellations of flights to Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.

Several other airlines issued advisories following the global outage, urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. Many flights were delayed as airlines had to issue boarding passes manually due to the automatic system being down.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu stated that his ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are actively managing the situation. The civil aviation ministry, in collaboration with AAI, has implemented manual backup systems to maintain operational continuity. "We have instructed all airlines and airport authorities to keep passengers informed about their flight status and provide necessary assistance," Naidu said. He added that additional measures include regular updates on flight status and deploying extra staff to assist passengers and address their concerns.

Services such as bookings, check-in, and the boarding process, including the issuance of boarding passes, are being carried out manually, resulting in longer wait times and long queues at airports.
