IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Steps Down; Rahul Bhatia Takes Interim Charge
IndiGo announced that its chief executive Pieter Elbers has resigned, with managing director Rahul Bhatia temporarily assuming leadership of the airline
10-03-2026India’s largest airline, IndiGo, revealed on Tuesday that its Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers has resigned from his position, effective March 10, 2026.
The leadership change follows a difficult period for the airline, particularly after a major operational disruption in December that severely affected flights and drew criticism from passengers as well as attention from government authorities.
In the wake of Elbers’ departure, Rahul Bhatia will temporarily lead the company’s operations. Bhatia, who currently holds the role of managing director, will supervise the airline’s functioning until a new leadership arrangement is finalized.
The company stated that Bhatia will manage key responsibilities and ensure continuity in operations during the transition phase.
The development comes at a time when the airline industry in India is experiencing rapid expansion but also facing operational pressures and regulatory scrutiny.
