IndiGo Clears ₹610 Crore in Refunds as Flight Punctuality Improves
Flights, refunds and airport operations are returning to normal after the ministry enforced strict measures to protect passengers
07-12-2025IndiGo announced on Sunday evening that its network is steadily returning to normal, with the airline expecting to run more than 1,650 flights today, compared to around 1,500 the previous day. Operations have resumed on 137 of its 138 destinations, and the carrier’s on-time performance has climbed to 75%, a sharp improvement from 30% a day earlier.
The airline reiterated that passengers booked for travel until December 15 can cancel or reschedule their flights without any charges. IndiGo also said that refund processing and baggage tracing efforts are being expedited.
“We are working continuously to restore our schedule. We request passengers to cooperate with us,” the airline said in its latest update.
Officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said the government has taken a series of immediate measures to ease the disruption caused by IndiGo’s operational breakdown and to ensure that travellers are not inconvenienced further.
According to the ministry, flight operations across the country have stabilised rapidly. Other domestic airlines are functioning at full strength, and IndiGo’s performance has been improving steadily through the day.
The ministry also stepped in to curb sharp spikes in airfares triggered by last-minute seat shortages. A temporary price cap was imposed with immediate effect to prevent overcharging.
Officials noted that fares on affected routes have now cooled down to reasonable levels and all airlines have been instructed to follow the revised limits strictly.
To safeguard passengers financially, MoCA instructed IndiGo to complete refunds for all cancelled or heavily delayed flights by 8 pm today.
So far, the airline has processed ₹610 crore in refunds, officials said. Passengers rebooking flights affected by disruptions will not be charged any additional fee. Dedicated support teams have been deployed to resolve refund and rescheduling requests quickly.
Authorities directed IndiGo to locate and return all mishandled or separated baggage within 48 hours. Continuous updates are to be provided to passengers during the process.
As of Saturday, IndiGo has reunited 3,000 bags with their owners across India.
Airport authorities from major hubs — including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Goa — confirmed that terminals are operating normally with no overcrowding at check-in, security, or boarding gates.
Ground teams and CISF personnel have been deployed in larger numbers to ensure seamless passenger movement.
The Civil Aviation Ministry’s round-the-clock control room continues to coordinate flight operations, staffing, and airport conditions nationwide. Passenger calls and complaints are being addressed immediately, and monitoring teams are present on the ground to oversee crew scheduling and customer assistance.
MoCA reiterated that passenger safety, comfort and rights remain the top priority. The ministry said the aviation system is quickly moving towards full stability, and all corrective measures will stay in place until IndiGo’s operations are completely normal. Further updates will be issued when required.
