IndiGo’s initiative, which allows solo women travelers to choose seats next to other female passengers, has gained significant traction since its introduction. In August 2024, the number of women opting for this service surged by 60-70% compared to the previous month of July.

Launched as a pilot project in May 2024, this gender-specific seating option aims to improve comfort and security for women traveling alone or with family. The feature highlights seats booked by female passengers in pink during the web check-in process, making it easier for women to select neighboring seats next to other female travelers.

The initiative is available exclusively to passengers who identify as female during the booking process, ensuring that male passengers do not have access to the highlighted seating information. The increase in usage of this option reflects growing awareness and appreciation for enhanced travel experiences for women.

An IndiGo spokesperson emphasized that this feature aligns with the airline's commitment to empowering female travelers, stating, "This new feature reflects our dedication to creating a comfortable and secure travel environment for women, whether they are flying solo or with family. We introduced this initiative based on extensive market research and are currently evaluating its success."

The feature was introduced in response to rising concerns over in-flight safety and comfort for female passengers, with many women seeking a seating arrangement that offers a greater sense of security. The airline plans to assess the success of this pilot project and make a decision regarding its future by the end of the second quarter of the financial year.
