Iran Rejects US Ceasefire Plan, Sends 10-Point Counterproposal as Trump Issues Fresh Hormuz Warning
Tehran pushes for a permanent end to hostilities while Washington escalates rhetoric over the Strait of Hormuz
06-04-2026Iran has declined a ceasefire framework put forward by the United States and instead submitted a detailed ten-point reply calling for a lasting resolution to the war, according to state-run news agency IRNA.
The report said Tehran’s response dismisses the idea of a temporary truce and stresses the need for a comprehensive conclusion to the conflict. Iran’s position was reportedly relayed to Washington via Pakistan. Among the key elements outlined are a halt to regional hostilities, guarantees for secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, removal of sanctions, and commitments toward post-war rebuilding.
US President Donald Trump acknowledged that a 45-day truce had been reviewed by his administration, describing it as a meaningful development but insufficient to meet American expectations. Speaking at the White House, he said talks were ongoing through intermediaries and warned that Iran would face consequences if tensions continued.
During remarks at a public event, Trump suggested that the current leadership group in Iran differed from previous ones and indicated that Washington believed it was dealing with comparatively more pragmatic actors.
A day earlier, Trump had issued a deadline on his social media platform, demanding that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday evening Eastern Time. In a strongly worded message, he threatened action against Iranian energy facilities if the strategic waterway remained shut. The warning was reiterated the following day.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil shipments, remains at the centre of the standoff, with diplomatic channels still active despite mounting rhetoric on both sides.
