Israel and Hezbollah exchanged fire as tensions heightened ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack, which led to the ongoing war in Gaza. On Sunday, Israel continued its airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon. The Israeli military reported hitting Hezbollah terrorist targets, including weapons storage facilities and intelligence headquarters in Beirut.
In retaliation, Hezbollah launched "Fadi 1" missiles at a military base in northern Israel, south of Haifa. Israeli media reported that 10 people were injured in the attack. Meanwhile, in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes on a mosque and a school sheltering displaced civilians resulted in at least 26 deaths. Israel stated that the strikes were aimed at Hamas terrorists.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated after the war in Gaza began last year, triggered by Hamas' deadly attack on Israeli towns on October 7. The attack left about 1,200 people dead and over 250 taken hostage. Israel's response has been devastating, with over 41,000 people killed, mostly civilians, in Gaza. In Lebanon, the conflict has claimed more than 2,000 lives.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Sunday to achieve victory, praising the military's efforts in transforming the situation since Hamas’ attack. He assured Israeli troops that the country "will win" as they continue their operations in Gaza and Lebanon. He also hinted at the possibility of a strike on Iran, which has been actively supporting Hezbollah and Hamas and has fired more than 180 missiles into Israel in retaliation for the deaths of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
