Days after protesting against being referred to by her husband's name, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan introduced herself as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan" in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, leading to a humorous exchange in the House.

Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar couldn't contain his laughter, and his reaction set off a wave of amusement among several Opposition MPs, including Congress's Jairam Ramesh and AAP's Raghav Chadha.

Jaya Bachchan, continuing the light-hearted moment, asked Dhankhar if he had gotten a lunch break. "No? This is why you're taking Jairam ji's name repeatedly. You cannot digest your food without taking his name," she joked.

Dhankhar, joining in the banter, replied, "I'll tell you on a light-hearted note. I did not take a lunch break today, but I had lunch with Jairam ji." His response prompted further laughter in the House.

This exchange followed an incident on July 29 when Jaya Bachchan objected to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh referring to her as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan." She insisted, "Sir, only Jaya Bachchan would have sufficed," and criticized the practice of identifying women by their husbands' names, emphasizing that women have their own identities and achievements.

The Deputy Chairman, with a smile, had noted that her full name in the official records was indeed "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan."
