Suraj Revanna, a prominent leader of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD(S)), has been arrested following allegations of sexually assaulting a male party worker in Karnataka's Hassan district. The incident, reported on June 16 at a farmhouse, led to the filing of a case against Revanna by the 27-year-old complainant.
Revanna denies the accusations, claiming the complaint is fabricated and motivated by demands for a ₹5 crore payment, which he refused to fulfill. His friend Shivkumar also filed a police complaint, asserting that the party worker had threatened to file false charges if monetary demands were not met.
This development comes in the wake of controversies surrounding the JD(S), with former MP Prajwal Revanna recently facing judicial custody over separate allegations. Prajwal, grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, faced electoral defeat in the recent Hassan constituency polls amid scandalous accusations involving explicit videos circulated before the elections.
The JD(S) has distanced itself from both Revanna brothers amid ongoing investigations, while the BJP has maintained a neutral stance, stating no affiliation with the circulating videos or ongoing legal proceedings. HD Revanna, father of Prajwal and Suraj, was also implicated in legal troubles related to kidnapping and sexual assault cases earlier this year.
