O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), recognized as an Institution of Eminence, is set to inaugurate India's first Constitution Museum, titled "The Constitution Academy and The Rights & Freedoms Museum," on November 26, 2024. This initiative marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

A Landmark Initiative

The museum, located on the JGU campus, aims to honor the Indian Constitution, a cornerstone of the nation's governance and democracy. Adopted on November 26, 1949, the Constitution outlines fundamental laws and reflects India’s commitment to democracy, justice, and equality.

Founding Chancellor Naveen Jindal's Vision

Naveen Jindal, the Founding Chancellor of JGU, emphasized the museum’s role in celebrating the Constitution as a unifying symbol of India. He noted that the museum would highlight the Constitution’s role in fostering unity amidst India’s diversity, reinforcing the principle of "Unity in Diversity."

Vice Chancellor C. Raj Kumar's Statement

Professor Dr. C. Raj Kumar, the Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU, described the museum as a dynamic institution showcasing the Constitution’s ongoing relevance. He explained that the museum will feature both historical and contemporary perspectives, highlighting the efforts of the Constituent Assembly members, citizens, and legal experts.

Curatorial Insights

Curated by Anjchita B. Nair, CEO of Cultre and Head of the Centre for Museums, the museum will use innovative storytelling methods to make the Constitution accessible and engaging. It will include a variety of exhibits—textual, audio-visual, and experiential—to illustrate the Constitution’s evolution and significance.

Features of the Museum

The Constitution Academy will include:

  • Profiles of Constituent Assembly members.
  • Detailed sections on different parts of the Constitution.
  • A Children’s Corner with interactive installations.
  • A dynamic archive of expert interviews and discussions.
  • Art pieces related to the Constitution.

This museum is designed to be a repository of India’s constitutional journey, preserving and presenting the nation's foundational document in a modern, engaging manner.

Celebrating 75 Years

The Constitution Academy will not only serve as an educational resource but also as a tribute to the legacy of those who contributed to the creation of India’s Constitution, ensuring its continued relevance and impact for future generations.
