Walz also served 24 years in the Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.
In 2006, Walz was elected to the US House of Representatives, representing Minnesota's 1st Congressional District. During his congressional tenure, he focused on veterans' affairs, education, and agriculture, gaining respect for his bipartisan efforts.
Elected as Governor of Minnesota in 2018, Walz faced significant challenges, most notably the Covid-19 pandemic. His response, which included lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccine distribution efforts, received mixed reactions from the public.
