Karisma Kapoor’s Children Battle Step-Mother Priya Kapur Over Rs. 30,000 Crore Inheritance

A heated inheritance battle has broken out over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s fortune, estimated at nearly ₹30,000 crore, with Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s children claiming they have been denied access to assets meant for them.

According to sources, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (15), Karisma’s children with Sunjay, allege that their stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapur has taken control of the family trust and personal wealth through a disputed will. The trust in question — the RK Family Trust, named after Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur — reportedly holds assets worth ₹1,900 crore, which the children say remain inaccessible to them.

The Court Battle

On Tuesday, Priya Kapur’s lawyer told the Delhi High Court that the children had already received ₹1,900 crore from the trust and questioned why further claims were being made.
“All this weeping is unnecessary. Just six days ago, the plaintiffs received ₹1,900 crore. What more do they want?” argued senior counsel Rajiv Nayar.

However, those close to the family insist the assets remain under Priya’s control, leaving the children with no independent authority over them.

The High Court has now directed Priya Kapur to submit a detailed list of all movable and immovable properties held by Sunjay Kapur at the time of his death on June 12, 2024, and adjourned the matter to October 9.

Disputed Will

Samaira and Kiaan’s petition also challenges the validity of a will dated March 21, which surfaced seven weeks after Sunjay’s death. The will allegedly bequeaths all of his personal estate to Priya Kapur, though it remains unregistered. The children’s lawyers argue that Priya herself had earlier claimed Sunjay had left no will, casting doubts on its authenticity.

Priya’s counsel admitted the will was unregistered but insisted this “does not alter its legal standing.”

Family Rift

Adding to the turmoil, Rani Kapur, Sunjay’s mother, has also opposed the will, alleging she has been left with nothing. Through her lawyer, she told the court she had sent over 15 unanswered emails to Priya seeking clarity.
“I am 80 years old. My son’s estate, worth ₹10,000 crore, should have included my share. Today, I am left with nothing, not even a roof over my head,” she said in court.

Past and Present Conflicts

Priya’s counsel also brought up Karisma Kapoor’s troubled marriage and divorce from Sunjay, suggesting she had been absent from his life for over a decade.
“I (Priya) am a widow with a six-year-old child. I was his wife at the time of his passing. Karisma was not part of his life for 15 years,” the lawyer said.

Karisma and Sunjay married in 2003 and divorced in 2016 after years of litigation. Sunjay later married Priya in 2017. He died suddenly on June 12, 2024, during a polo match in London.

Meanwhile, Samaira and Kiaan maintain they had a close relationship with their father, spending time with him on holidays, family gatherings, and business visits — and now want their rightful share of his wealth.
