Karnataka High Court to Hear BS Yediyurappa's Plea for Dismissal of Sexual Assault Charges

The Karnataka High Court is set to hear former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa's plea for dismissal of charges related to an alleged sexual assault on a minor.

Additionally, the High Court will review Yediyurappa's anticipatory bail plea today.

On Thursday, the Karnataka Police filed a chargesheet against Yediyurappa. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted the chargesheet under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012, in a special court.

Yediyurappa faces charges under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and Section 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Karnataka High Court had previously directed the CID not to arrest Yediyurappa based on a POCSO court warrant issued on June 13, noting that the former Chief Minister is a prominent figure.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the victim's mother on March 14. She alleged that Yediyurappa attempted to molest her child on February 2, during a visit to his residence for assistance in a cheating case.

Yediyurappa has denied the allegations, calling them "baseless," and has vowed to contest the charges in court.

The victim’s mother, who lodged the complaint, passed away last month due to lung cancer.
