Bibhav Kumar, a close aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has approached the Supreme Court seeking bail in a case where he is accused of assaulting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal.

Kumar's plea challenges a recent Delhi High Court order that denied him bail. Previously, a Delhi magisterial court had dismissed his bail request in May.

The incident allegedly took place on May 13 at the Chief Minister's residence in New Delhi, where Kumar is accused of assaulting Maliwal.

Kumar argued before the high court that he had been in custody for over 25 days and faced undue incarceration. He contended that Maliwal’s alleged injuries were not supported by the Medico-Legal Case report, which did not corroborate her account.

Kumar described the situation as a misuse of the criminal justice system, claiming that both he and Maliwal had filed complaints against each other. However, only Maliwal’s case is being investigated, which Kumar attributes to her influential position as a Rajya Sabha MP.
