Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly dismissed the Opposition's no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, stating it lacked merit. The motion, backed by over 50 MPs, accused Dhankhar of partisanship, reflecting the strained relationship between him and Opposition parties.

Rijiju pointed out the futility of the move, emphasizing the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) majority in the Rajya Sabha. "The notice will be rejected. Such actions should not be entertained," he asserted.

The motion, spearheaded by the Congress, also garnered support from a diverse set of parties, including Bengal’s Trinamool Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Samajwadi Party, Tamil Nadu’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal. Despite ideological differences, these parties came together to challenge the Chairman's perceived bias.

The decision to proceed with the no-trust motion was reportedly made after Dhankhar allowed the BJP to discuss Congress leaders’ alleged ties with US billionaire investor George Soros. The BJP has accused the Congress of collaborating with Soros to destabilize India.

Congress leaders questioned the Chairman’s decision to permit a discussion on the issue, pointing out that he had previously rejected Opposition demands to discuss other critical subjects. This perceived double standard prompted the Opposition to escalate their protest with the motion.Kiren Rijiju
