Live IED with 7-Hour Timer Found Near Pune Hospital, Safely Defused
Swift action by police and bomb squad prevents potential tragedy in Hadapsar area
14-05-2026Tension gripped parts of Pune on Wednesday after an improvised explosive device (IED) fitted with a seven-hour timer was detected near a hospital in the Kamdhenu Estate locality of Hadapsar.
The suspicious object was noticed outside the medical facility, prompting immediate alerts to local law enforcement. Personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with fire brigade officials and a canine unit, quickly arrived at the location and sealed off the surrounding area as a precaution.
After conducting an initial inspection, the BDDS team carefully relocated the device to a secure, open ground away from the hospital premises to minimise risk. Senior officers monitored the operation while investigators began collecting evidence from the scene.
Preliminary examination confirmed that the object was an active, low-intensity explosive device containing explosive material and an operational timer mechanism.
Police Commissioner Nitesh Kumar stated that the bomb was neutralised safely in an isolated area and that a detailed probe has been launched on priority.
Authorities from the Crime Branch and local police units are now working to establish how the device was planted and to identify those responsible. Officials confirmed that no injuries or damage were reported, and the situation has been brought under control.
Investigations remain ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to trace the origin and intent behind the incident.
