Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the removal of 15-year-old buses from the state’s transport fleet and announced the disposal of 13,000 outdated government vehicles. The remaining buses in the fleet will be upgraded with LNG and CNG systems to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The decision was made during a review meeting at the Sahyadri Guest House, where Chief Minister Fadnavis discussed plans for the next 100 days across various government departments.

Focus on Road Safety with AI Integration

Highlighting the need for improved road safety, the Chief Minister urged officials to leverage artificial intelligence to analyze and mitigate road accidents. The meeting also noted an agreement with Google, recommending the use of its technological resources to enhance road safety measures.

Key Departments and Attendees

The review included discussions on the work of departments such as Transport, Ports, and the Maharashtra Airport Development Authority. Ministers including Dhananjay Munde (Food and Civil Supplies), Ashish Shelar (Cultural Affairs), Jaykumar Gore (Rural Development), Sanjay Savkare (Textiles), and Pratap Sarnaik (Transport) were present at the meeting.

Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, and other principal and additional chief secretaries, also participated in the discussions.

Sustainable and Efficient Strategies

The meeting focused on ensuring sustainable operations in the transport sector, implementing environmentally friendly measures, and improving efficiency across departments. The scrapping of outdated vehicles and the retrofitting of the existing fleet with cleaner fuel systems were identified as critical steps toward achieving these goals.

The government’s initiatives aim to modernize transportation, promote safety, and enhance sustainability, aligning with the state’s long-term development strategy.
