Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has found herself embroiled in controversy once again as a case has been registered against her for allegedly outraging the modesty of National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma. The Delhi Police's special cell filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman.

The incident stemmed from a social media post by Moitra concerning videos showing someone holding an umbrella for Rekha Sharma during her visit to meet women injured in the Hathras stampede, where 121 people lost their lives. Moitra's comment, which referenced "pajamas," sparked immediate controversy. Despite deleting the post later, the matter escalated when the NCW took notice and demanded legal action against her.

Moitra, known for her outspoken nature, responded defiantly on social media, challenging the Delhi Police to take immediate action against her and even providing her location in West Bengal's Nadia. She highlighted previous controversial remarks made by Rekha Sharma and accused her of bias and unprofessional conduct.

The MP from Krishnanagar, West Bengal, has been no stranger to controversy. Last year, she was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following allegations related to the 'cash-for-query' scandal. The Ethics Committee's report implicated her in accepting bribes, including cash and luxury gifts, in exchange for raising critical questions in Parliament.

Authorities are concurrently investigating these allegations against Moitra, underscoring the ongoing legal and ethical challenges surrounding her tenure in public office.
