Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was released from Tihar Jail on Friday after 17 months. Upon his release, Sisodia shared a morning selfie on social media, holding a cup of tea with his wife, and expressed his emotions about gaining freedom. In his post, he remarked on the significance of freedom guaranteed by the Constitution and his relief at being able to breathe freely again.

The Supreme Court granted Sisodia bail earlier that day, criticizing the prolonged incarceration without trial and citing it as a deprivation of his right to a speedy trial. Sisodia, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had been detained in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi's excise policy. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal remains in custody related to the same case.

Following his release, Sisodia visited Kejriwal’s residence, where he was warmly received by the Chief Minister’s family. The meeting was emotional, particularly for Sunita Kejriwal, who was moved to tears. Sisodia also sought blessings from Kejriwal’s parents during his visit.

Sisodia, who had resigned from his ministerial post in February 2023, was initially arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and later detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of money laundering.
