The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's memory, calling them "unfortunate" and contrary to the spirit of India's friendly relations with the United States.
During a rally in Maharashtra's Amravati on November 16, Rahul Gandhi likened PM Modi's memory lapses to that of US President Joe Biden, who is often in the news for verbal missteps. Gandhi alleged that PM Modi had been showing signs of forgetfulness, claiming that the Prime Minister had reversed accusations related to the Constitution.
“For the past year, I’ve been pointing out how the BJP has been attacking the Constitution. But now, PM Modi is claiming that it’s the Congress doing so. When he realized people were angry, he shifted the blame onto me,” Gandhi stated at the rally.
Reacting to these remarks, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed disapproval, stating that such comments were inconsistent with the longstanding and warm ties between India and the United States.
“India and the US share a multifaceted relationship built on years of perseverance, mutual respect, and shared commitment. These remarks do not reflect the government of India’s position and are not in keeping with the strong partnership we have developed with the US,” Jaiswal said.
The Congress has been vocal in accusing the BJP government of undermining the Constitution, while the government has firmly denied these allegations, dismissing them as unfounded.MEA Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on PM Modi’s Memory as 'Unfortunate'
