Middle-Class Relief Sought by X User, Nirmala Sitharaman Responds
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman acknowledged a social media user’s request for middle-class relief, emphasizing the government’s responsiveness to public concerns
17-11-2024Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to a social media user’s plea for relief measures for the middle class, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns. The interaction unfolded on X (formerly Twitter) after the user, Tushar Sharma, replied to one of the minister’s posts with a heartfelt request.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the middle class, Sharma wrote, “We deeply appreciate your efforts and contributions to the country, and you have our utmost admiration. I humbly request you to consider providing some relief for the middle class. I understand the immense challenges involved, but it's just a heartfelt request.”
The minister, in turn, expressed gratitude for his understanding and emphasized that the government is attentive to citizens’ voices. “Thank you for your kind words and your understanding. PM @narendramodi’s government is a responsive government. Listens and attends to people’s voices. Thanks once again for your understanding. Your input is valuable,” she replied.
The exchange occurred after Ms. Sitharaman shared a post highlighting verses written by a member of the erstwhile Royal Family of Travancore, published in The Sunday Guardian.
The request comes against the backdrop of rising inflation, a growing concern for the Indian middle class. Retail inflation rose to 6.21% last month, surpassing the Reserve Bank of India’s upper tolerance limit, while food inflation jumped to 10.87%, up from 9.24% in September, according to National Statistics Office data.
The interaction underscores the increasing economic pressures on households and the government’s acknowledgment of public concerns amid these challenges.
