Mihir Shah, the prime suspect in the Worli hit-and-run case, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Tuesday. Shah, aged 24 and son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah from the Eknath Shinde camp, was apprehended on July 9 following allegations that he fatally struck a woman with his BMW.
The incident occurred on July 7 when a BMW collided with a scooter carrying a couple on Annie Besant Road in Worli. The collision resulted in the tragic death of Kaveri Nakhwa, who was dragged for nearly 1.5 kilometers by the scooter. Her husband, Pradip Nakhwa, sustained injuries in the incident.
Mihir Shah was allegedly driving the BMW at the time of the accident, with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, reportedly in the passenger seat. According to police reports, after the collision, Bidawat exchanged seats with Mihir Shah on instructions from Rajesh Shah.
In an attempt to evade arrest, Mihir Shah shaved his beard, but he was eventually apprehended on July 9 at a resort in Virar, near Mumbai.
Police sources indicated that Mihir Shah was intoxicated during the accident. They revealed that Shah had been socializing with friends at a bar in Juhu before the incident, where he drove them home in a Mercedes before allegedly taking the BMW for a joy ride along Marine Drive. Near Haji Ali, he purportedly swapped seats with his driver and assumed control of the vehicle.
Mihir Shah faces charges of culpable homicide, and his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, has also been arrested and placed in judicial custody since July 11.
Rajesh Shah, Mihir's father and the owner of the BMW involved in the incident, was initially taken into custody on July 7 but was released on bail the following day.
