A 17-year-old boy involved in a tragic Porsche crash in Pune that resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals is facing difficulties securing college admission due to the ongoing criminal case against him, his lawyer reported to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
The minor, who recently completed his 12th grade, applied for a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at a renowned college in Delhi but was denied admission in light of the incident, according to his legal counsel.
The boy was allegedly behind the wheel of a Porsche when it collided with two motorbike-riding engineers, one of whom was a woman, in the upscale Kalyani Nagar area in the early hours of May 19, leading to their deaths.
During proceedings before the JJB, the minor’s attorney emphasized the need to ensure that the ongoing investigation does not impede his educational opportunities.
Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray echoed this sentiment, stating that education is a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution and advocating for the minor’s admission to his desired college.
In June, police submitted a final report to the JJB outlining the evidence against the minor in connection with the crash. The board is also reviewing a plea from Pune Police seeking to prosecute him as an adult for the incident.
