Modi, Trump Speak for 40 Minutes as Middle East Tensions Loom
Leaders reconnect after US-Iran ceasefire amid diplomatic uncertainty and renewed focus on bilateral ties
14-04-2026Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump engaged in a detailed phone discussion lasting close to 40 minutes on Tuesday, their first direct interaction since the recently announced US-Iran ceasefire and the inconclusive negotiations held in Islamabad.
The conversation unfolded against a backdrop of rising geopolitical sensitivities, particularly in West Asia, where uncertainty persists over the durability of the truce and the possibility of renewed diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.
Commenting on the exchange, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described India-US ties as being in a robust phase. According to remarks cited by Press Trust of India, Trump conveyed a warm message to Modi during the call, telling him, “I just want you to know we all love you.”
Although official specifics of Tuesday’s dialogue were not released, the duration of the call indicates that a range of substantive issues may have been discussed, including regional developments and strategic coordination.
The two leaders had last spoken on February 2 to assess progress on a proposed bilateral trade agreement. They were also in touch on March 24, when evolving security concerns in the region featured prominently in their discussions.
With speculation continuing about a potential second round of US-Iran talks, the latest interaction between Modi and Trump signals ongoing high-level engagement at a critical diplomatic juncture.
