During his ongoing visit to Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared that he declined a personal invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Washington, opting instead to return to what he called the "holy land of Mahaprabhu."
Speaking at a public gathering in Bhubaneswar, Modi recounted that while attending the G7 Summit in Canada just days ago, President Trump called him and extended a warm invitation to stop by Washington for a dinner and discussion.
“President Trump called and said, ‘Since you're already in Canada, come via Washington. Let's have dinner and a chat.’ He was very gracious and persistent,” Modi told the audience. “But I responded by saying, ‘Thank you for the kind offer, but it is important for me to visit the land of Mahaprabhu.’ It is your love and devotion that brought me here.”
The Prime Minister’s visit to Odisha marks the first anniversary of the BJP’s government in the state — the party’s first-ever administration there. This is Modi’s sixth visit to Odisha since the BJP formed its government in June 2024.
During the visit, he inaugurated 105 development projects worth over ₹18,600 crore. These include initiatives across sectors such as drinking water, irrigation, healthcare, rural and national roadways, bridges, and railway infrastructure. Modi also unveiled the “Odisha Vision Document,” outlining a long-term plan for the state's development.
