Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday intensified his criticism of the Congress and the Left during a public meeting in Kerala’s Tiruvalla, accusing both alliances of routinely spreading misinformation and misleading the public on key national issues.

In his address, Modi claimed that leaders of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have dismissed various matters — including controversial films and legislative changes — as fabricated, while themselves engaging in what he described as habitual falsehoods. He alleged that both blocs have made it a pattern to label developments they disagree with as untrue.

The Prime Minister further accused the Opposition of fuelling confusion over recent policy measures such as amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) and discussions surrounding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He pointed to Goa’s long-standing civil code as an example, arguing that misinformation is being deliberately circulated for political advantage. He also referenced earlier protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), claiming similar tactics had been used.

Remarks on Migrants in Gulf Countries

Modi also criticised Congress leaders for what he termed “provocative statements” that could adversely affect nearly one crore Indians living and working in Iran and Gulf nations. He alleged that domestic political rhetoric could strain India’s diplomatic ties in West Asia and potentially endanger migrant workers.

Highlighting the presence of fishermen and workers from states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Telangana and Puducherry in the region, the Prime Minister said the government is actively coordinating efforts to ensure their safety amid ongoing tensions. He noted that several individuals have already been brought back safely and assured families that New Delhi remains in constant contact with regional governments.

Modi stressed that political disagreements should not compromise the security of Indians abroad, stating that elections come and go but the well-being of citizens overseas remains a top priority.

‘Two Sides of the Same Coin’

Turning to state politics, the Prime Minister accused the LDF and UDF of maintaining a tacit understanding despite publicly criticising each other. He said both alliances frequently brand one another as aligned with the BJP, while, in his view, sharing similar political objectives. He likened their rivalry to a staged contest, suggesting it lacks genuine ideological differences.

On the Sabarimala temple issue, Modi alleged that both fronts had mishandled matters related to the shrine and vowed accountability if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gains power in Kerala.

Throughout his speech, the Prime Minister maintained that misinformation on issues ranging from national legislation to cultural debates has become a recurring strategy of the Opposition.
