Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke over the phone on Thursday, using the conversation to take stock of the growing India–US relationship at a time when trade frictions between the two countries continue to make headlines.
During the call, both leaders noted with satisfaction that the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership has continued to expand steadily, with cooperation deepening across multiple sectors.
Modi and Trump emphasised the need to sustain momentum on bilateral trade discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to boosting economic engagement. They also touched upon ways to broaden cooperation in emerging technologies, energy ties, defence collaboration and security partnerships — areas that form the core of the India-US COMPACT framework (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) designed for long-term strategic cooperation.
The two leaders also reviewed key global and regional issues, agreeing to work jointly on matters of shared concern and broader strategic interests. Both sides committed to staying in regular contact to keep up the pace of engagement.
