Mumbai’s iconic street foods like Bhelpuri, Vada Pav, and Pav Bhaji have earned the city a prestigious 5th place in TasteAtlas’s 2024/25 list of the 100 Best Food Cities in the World. The global food and travel guide evaluated 17,073 cities from its database, ranking them based on 477,287 food ratings across 15,478 regional and national dishes.
India shone on the global stage with six cities making it to the list. Alongside Mumbai’s impressive 5th spot, Amritsar was ranked 43rd, New Delhi 45th, Hyderabad 50th, Kolkata 71st, and Chennai 75th.

Mumbai and Other Indian Cities Shine
TasteAtlas spotlighted must-try dishes from each Indian city. Mumbai’s culinary highlights included Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, and Bombay Biryani. In Delhi, Chole Bhature and Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhani) led the recommendations, while Hyderabad was celebrated for its Hyderabad Biryani and Chicken 65. Amritsar’s famed Pinni and Amritsari Kulcha were among the top picks. Kolkata charmed food lovers with Aloo Chop, Rasgulla, and Roshmalai, while Chennai stood out for its Chicken 65, Dosa, and Rumali Roti.
Global Rankings
The top 10 cities in the TasteAtlas rankings featured six Italian cities: Naples (1), Milan (2), Bologna (3), Florence (4), Rome (6), and Turin (9). Joining them were Paris (7), Vienna (8), Osaka (10), and Mumbai, which was the only non-European and Asian city in the top 10.
Indian Cuisine on the World Stage
TasteAtlas also ranked Indian cuisine 12th among 100 global cuisines. Four Indian dishes—Murgh Makhani, Hyderabadi Biryani, Chicken 65, and Keema—secured spots on the prestigious list of the 100 Best Dishes in the World.
