N Chandrababu Naidu Set to Take Oath as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister on June 9
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is poised to become Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister again, with PM Narendra Modi attending the oath-taking ceremony
04-06-2024Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader N Chandrababu Naidu is slated to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 9. Sources confirm that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the event.
With the TDP-led alliance securing a decisive victory, leading in 158 out of 175 assembly constituencies, Naidu is set to govern the state once again. This marks his fourth term as Chief Minister. Naidu, 74, previously served as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004 and became the first Chief Minister of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh after the state's bifurcation in 2014.
After suffering a significant defeat to the YSR Congress Party in 2019, Naidu has made a strong comeback, driven by an anti-incumbency wave. His strategic alliance with the Jana Sena Party (JSP) led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan and the BJP has been pivotal in this turnaround.
The TDP has secured a substantial majority with a clear lead in 131 assembly segments. Naidu is also leading in his long-held Kuppam constituency, which he has represented since 1989. His son, Nara Lokesh, TDP's general secretary, is leading in the Mangalagiri constituency, reversing his previous electoral defeat in the same segment.
Additionally, the TDP is leading in 16 of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies, with the tripartite alliance ahead in 21 seats. This is a significant improvement from 2019 when the TDP won only 23 assembly seats and three Lok Sabha seats.
N Chandrababu Naidu's imminent return to power underscores a significant shift in Andhra Pradesh's political landscape, buoyed by his effective coalition and robust campaign strategy.
